Is Everyone A Racist?!

Hello America.
It has been a very interesting week. Lots of news to cover, and as usual, I'm not covering any of it. Instead, what I will do, is comment on something I saw recently, without edit, notes, re-writes, etc. This is just me, one man, commenting, questioning, thinking. Here we go :)

Former President Jimmy Carter thinks that racism is alive and growing in America. Wow. Really?! Also, recently, anyone disagreeing with our current President Obama, is called a racist right away, as if that dismisses the opposing viewpoint. Which leads me to my question. Here it is.

Is calling a person who disagrees with another person racist, only because the two people are different colors, make the disagreeable person a racist? Or to put it another way, perhaps more plainly, is it degrading to call someone who disagrees with President Obama a racist?

Now, before you stop reading, and please don't, I want to share my thoughts with you, does it cheapen a person like the President Of The United States to say that the only thing that stands out about them is their color?

I was floored when I first heard someone who disagreed with President Obama called a racist. To be absolutely frank I was worried and even scared! "Wow, " I thought, " so if I disagree with this person on anything, I run the risk of being called a racist." Okay. I can deal with that. I'm not going to get into my ethnicity or my background, that doesn't enter into this discussion, the point of which is to ask the question I posed above. Lets break the question down.

We have a new President. That happens every four or eight years, depending on whats going on in the nation, which of the two major parties runs the House and Senate, whether or not we are at war and a myriad of other factors. Personally, I think it has to do with who can sling the best mud, while answering the least amount of questions, but I'll save that for another blog post. So, we have a new president, President Barack Obama. He has certain views that on their surface seem like rational, and helpful. Real salt-of-the-earth, love-your-neighbor type views. Good, those are honorable pursuits in my book. But lets not look at his views just yet, lets look at the man first, and then we will get into his views.

Barack Hussein Obama. ( I got the following from good ole wikipedia! )
  • B.A. Columbia University (major in political science specialized in international relations)
  • Director, Developing Communities Project
  • Consultant, Instructor Garmaliel Foundation
  • Editor Harvard Law Review (after only one year there! Now thats tough!)
  • President Harvard Law Review (second year there! again, wow...double tough)
  • Summer Associate at several Chicago Law firms (its in the wiki article, read it)
  • Graduated Harvard J.D. Magna Cum Laude 1991
  • Directed Project Vote in Illinois
  • Professor of Constitutional Law, University of Chicago Law School
  • (There are a few other things that he did in the private sector, there in the wiki, the above is already a heavy-handed list of accomplishments that are extraordinary. )
  • Illinois State Legislator 1997 - 2004
  • United States Senator Illinois 2005 - 2008
  • And last but certainly not least....President Of The United States Of America!

Wow. That is one impressive body of work. I don't care who you are, that takes a level of dedication and perseverance that few of us ever see. He is an accomplished man. And, still, with ALL of these accomplishments, and more, since I didn't take the time to list them all (I'm not selling him to you, just making a point), after ALL that, the hard work, late nights, long drives, lonely study binges, all that people can pick out, is that he's black? REALLY!?!?!

So, after all that hard work, whenever someone says, "Hey, Mr. President, I think we can do things better this way." or "Mr. President, your views are socialst." "Your views are marxist." Or one of the funnier ones to me, because I fully embrace the 1st amendment, "You Lie!" After all his accomplishments, you can ONLY come back with, "Racist!" Wow, now THAT is degrading to the President if you ask me. Degrading.

Say what you want about the president. Call him out on his viewpoints, circle-of-friends, plans, choice of suit color, his books (he wrote two by the way) or whatever else you want. YOU AREN'T THE RACIST! The ones who can only see his color, the majority of which I hear coming from the 'Left' are the racists. They are the ones who are obsessed with his color, not YOU.

SO..There you have it. My question, observation, and hopefully the answer. What do you think? In the interest of full-disclosure, I dislike a lot of the president's views. Personally however, I think he has made some great accomplishments. I am judging the content of his character, NOT the color of his skin, Thank You Mr. Martin Luther King Jr!!! I'll save my difference of political views for another post. But for now know this, disagree all you want with his political positions. Do NOT fear someone pulling the race card out on you, as I'm sure they will. Just remember that when they do, they are the ones noticing the color of his skin. Of course, I guess since they know their position is baseless, thats all they have left.

Cheers!

P.S. As usual I'm not going to go back and read this. I never do. I think that way it stays as honest as it was when it was a thought in my brain. I don't dress it up for you. It is what it is. I am who I am. And we are Americans GOD BLESS YOU, GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Life After Burglary

Fear, worry, violation, sadness, anger. Those are the feelings I felt after my home was burglarized.
The scum took my television, which was a few years old, and my apple laptop that was also a few years old, but very usable and very dependable. They broke in through the front door, prying open, and just walked out with my belongings in broad daylight. When I say 'broad-daylight' I mean it was 1:20 in the afternoon. Incredibly, no one saw anything. Strange how we all keep our heads buried and 'go about our business' these days. It was hard trying to explain to my 2 year old what 'stolen' means and where the t.v. was.

The following Wednesday after the first break-in, they tried again. I say 'they' because I believe it was the same couple of people; they tried coming in through the back door to my house. Cops showed up in full force, but found no one and no evidence, other than a partially open sliding glass door.

Life With Less Stuff
Getting along without a t.v. and laptop was rough the first few days. However, I think it was actually good. As a family we sat and talked, played with the kids more, laughed a lot about things that would have only interrupted 'tv-time' before. Without my laptop, I couldn't work on projects that I needed to, but I took up fishing, and I think I enjoy that more than I used to. It's very relaxing as opposed to programming, which can be exhilarating as well as tortuous.

Security Updates Not Just For Windows Anymore
So, after two break-ins, suspicious characters lurking about my yard, and a bunch of sleepless nights, I think I can now rest easy. We have various security measures now, which for obvious reasons I will not list here, and we really don't have irreplaceable stuff anymore. Every thing is backed up to an online drive I pay for anyway, and the music stuff will probably be in use most times I am not home, so they should be safe.

Getting On With The Business Of Living
So, now instead of spending all my time tied to a computer for most of the night, I try to go fishing. I read more, and by more I mean at all, because I didn't while I had my laptop. The family is good. My wife is awesome because she limits our son to only a few hours of t.v. a day, and only for the shows that are 'age appropriate' for him.

Moving forward, I think I'm going to stay laptop-less for awhile. I enjoy just hanging out when I get home, and its nice not to have something 'calling to me' while I try to get some sleep. I am looking forward to more time out on the road too. I used to put off rides because I was too 'busy' or something needed to be worked on. No More. Now I am going to enjoy my time here. We never know which day will be our last. Which time we kissed our spouse on the way out the door will be that last kiss. We should cherish our time, not give it willingly to the electronic mistresses in our lives. I can see that I'm rambling now, so its time for me to stop.

Cheers!

Divorce Decree

This was sent to me via email from my father-in-law. I'm not sure where he got it, but its funny. Makes a good point too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM.

American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists
And Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns
and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.
You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell(You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you Answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,
John J. Wall
Law Student and an American

P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin Sheehan, Barbara Streisand, & Jane Fonda with you.

P. S. S. And we won't have to press 1 for English.

My name is Rob. This is my blog. I will be posting mostly about politics in general, along with wisdom from family and friends.

There will be discusssion groups setup on here as well, to give opposing viewpoints their due. After all, I’m not a democrat, so I’m not interested  in stifling the competing viewpoints.

Stick around, it should get interesting.
